MODERN FARMING METHODS

TEWDI Uganda has also embraced the use the modern farming practices and use of technology to increase on food production and family sustainability by using installing irrigation systems in different areas of Uganda

Household energy use is more than 95 percent dominated by the use of woody biomass (Wood charcoal and Firewood). The ever increasing demand for traditional wood charcoal and firewood to meet people’s energy needs is responsible for the rampant deforestation and soil degradation contributing to climate change which at the moment manifest in long drought periods, floods etc.


TEWDI Uganda advocates for and builds the capacity of communities especially: “women and youth groups’ to recycle discarded agricultural residues such as, maize cobs, groundnut husks, maize stalks etc. and other biomass which is normally considered unusable waste and is presently going to waste to make charcoal briquettes as a viable low cost alternative to environmentally damaging fuels such as firewood, kerosene and charcoal.

TEWDI Uganda also educates community members on the use of improved energy saving cook stoves as a way of saving fuel costs and also reducing the escalating levels of deforestation in Eastern Uganda.
